Project overview

AMZ Installations installed the T-bar ceilings for a new commercial space in Abbotsford, BC. The project combined a black T-bar ceiling over a double-height area with white T-bar ceilings in the lower rooms and corridors, each with recessed lighting integrated into the grid.

The space

The building has a tall central volume with clerestory windows, surrounded by lower rooms and circulation areas. The black ceiling sits high above the floor, while the white ceilings bring the lower spaces to a comfortable, human scale.

The challenge

Working at height on a large black ceiling leaves no margin for error: under daylight from the clerestory windows, every grid line and tile edge is visible. The two ceilings also had to meet cleanly at the bulkheads where the heights change.

Our solution: a black T-bar ceiling in Abbotsford

Using lifts, we installed a black grid and black lay-in tiles across the double-height area, with a regular pattern of recessed lights set out from the centre of the room. The dark ceiling makes the tall space feel finished and dramatic while hiding the services above. In the surrounding rooms, a white T-bar ceiling keeps the spaces bright and easy to maintain.

Why choose a black drop ceiling

A black drop ceiling gives the clean look of an open ceiling while keeping every service accessible above the tiles. It makes lights stand out, hides shadows and works especially well in tall spaces, showrooms and hospitality interiors.

The result

Two ceilings, one consistent standard: straight lines, balanced borders and lighting placed with care, giving the building a strong first impression and practical, accessible ceilings throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Are black T-bar ceilings available with acoustic tiles?

Yes. Black lay-in tiles are available in acoustic versions that help control noise.

Can you install T-bar ceilings in high, double-height spaces?

Yes. We work from lifts and scaffolding to install grids at height, with the same level and alignment as a standard ceiling.
