Project overview

For this restaurant in Richmond, BC, AMZ Installations installed a black linear baffle ceiling that runs the full depth of the dining room. The baffles work with long linear LED fixtures and track lights to create a bold, modern ceiling that frames the large artwork murals on the walls.

The space

The room is long and narrow, with communal tables, bar seating and a glazed storefront at one end. The walls carry large patterned murals and wood panelling, so the ceiling needed to give the space structure without competing with the artwork.

The challenge

In a long room, any variation in spacing or height between baffles is easy to see. The baffles also had to work around linear light fixtures, track lighting, sprinklers and mechanical services in the open plenum above.

Our solution: a linear baffle ceiling in Richmond

We installed rows of black baffles running across the room at a consistent spacing and height. The dark finish lets the open structure above disappear, while the repeating lines draw the eye toward the storefront. Long linear LED fixtures run between the baffles, and track lighting was coordinated to wash the murals.

Why baffles work in restaurants

Restaurants are full of hard surfaces: floors, tabletops, glass and painted walls. Acoustic baffles add surface area overhead without closing the ceiling, which helps keep noise under control when the room is full. Their open look also keeps mechanical services accessible.

The result

The finished ceiling gives the restaurant a strong, contemporary identity: clean black lines, even lighting and a backdrop that makes the murals stand out.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between acoustic baffles and clouds?

Baffles are vertical blades hung in rows; clouds are horizontal panels floating below the ceiling. Both control sound while keeping an open ceiling.

Can baffles be combined with linear lighting?

Yes. Linear fixtures can run between or below the baffles, as in this Richmond restaurant.
